Write the Perfect Essay Hook
Examiners spend about 2 minutes reading your essay. If you bore them in the first sentence, you've already lost marks.
The "Shocking Statistic"
Don't start with "In this essay I will discuss..." Start with a number.
Example: "70% of plastic waste ends up in the ocean, yet we continue to produce it daily."
The "Anecdote"
Start with a tiny, human story. Humans are wired to love stories. If you are writing about poverty, describe one person's morning rather than listing economic data immediately.
The "Question" (Use Sparingly)
Starting with a rhetorical question is a classic technique, but be careful. It can sound cliché. Only use it if the question challenges a common assumption.
